ABSTRACT
Networks, especially those connected to the Internet, are rapidly increasing. As the seamless connectivity increases, the threat to the information resources on these networks increases. Security mechanisms using various algorithms have already been made and are commercially available. However the intrusion to the networks mutate at a rapid rate which have resulted in the quest for intelligent Intrusion detection Systems. This paper brings out the concepts of data mining and its applications in developing Intelligent Real time- Network Intrusion Detection Systems.
